Vietnam is located in south east Asia. It borders Cambodia, Laos and China and stretches over 1600 km along the eastern coast of the Indochinese Peninsula. The country has two main cultivated areas which are the Red River Delta in the north and the Mekong Delta in the south. Lush green vegetation covers the lands throughout the country.
Hanoi is located in the Red River Delta, in the center of North Vietnam. It is encompassed by Thai Nguyen Province to the north Vinh Phuc and Ha Tay to the west and south. Whilst Bac Giang, Bac Ninh and Hung Yen provinces are to the east and south-east. Hanoi is situated in a tropical monsoon zone with two main seasons.
Halong Bay is located in the Gulf of Tonkin. The bay consists of a dense cluster of 1,969 limestone monolithic islands. Each of them being topped with thick jungle vegetation. They rise spectacularly from the ocean. Several of the islands are hollow, with enormous caves. The Wooden stakes Cave later named by the french as Grotte des Merveilles is the largest grotto in the Halong area.
Cat Ba Island is a National Park. It is commonly used as an overnight hotel stop on inexpensive package tours to Halong Bay. The Park covers both land and marine areas and has a high biodiversity. Mammals in the Park include civet cats and oriental giant squirrels.
Hue is located in Thua Thien prefecture and is in the central part of Vietnam. It is located 660 km from Ha Noi. Places of interest in Hue are, on the north side of the river, the Citadel, the centre of the historic city. Most of Hu's important monuments, temples, and pagodas are found in this area. Hu's most outstanding attractions are the royal citadel, an imperial city and the emperor's tombs.
The tunnels of Cu Chi are an immense network of connecting underground tunnels located in the Cu Chi district of Vietnam. They are actually a part of a much larger network of tunnels that underlie much of the country. The Cu Chi tunnels were the location of several military campaigns during the Vietnam War.
Hoi An is an Ancient Town and is south of Danang. It lies on the banks of the Thu Bon River. Hoi An has a distinct Chinese atmosphere with low, tile-roofed houses and narrow streets.The original structure of some of these streets still remains almost intact. All the houses were made of rare wood, decorated with lacquered boards and panels engraved with Chinese characters. Pillars were also carved with ornamental designs
Nha Trang is one of Vietnam's premier seaside resorts. It offers miles of empty beaches, deserted bays, numerous islands and coral reefs. All of this lures the visitor with the opportunity to swim, snorkel and scuba dive. Training and equipment for diving is available in Nha Trang. Nha Trang is home to the summer residence of the last Vietnamese emperor, Bao Dai.
