Seldja Gorge is both easy and difficult to reach. There are no roads leading out here, but in return you get one of the most attractive train rides left in this part of the world. The Seldja Gorge is the most memorable part of the trip, and you will pass through narrow canyons with mountain walls of up to 200 metres.
Dougga is situated in the mountains inland of Tunisia, at about 550 metres above sea level. This is in an area that was densely populated by the Numidians. The city served as one of the capitals of Massinissa and one of the contenders to Carthage.
El Djem is famous for its amphitheatre capable of seating 35,000 spectators. Only Rome's Colosseum and the ruined theatre of Capua are larger. The amphitheatre at El Djem was built by the Romans under proconsul Gordian around 238. It was probably mainly used for gladiator shows and chariot races.
