Common sense as usual when it comes to safety, avoid travelling alone at night, be careful when changing large amounts of money, make copies of your passport etc. A 5%-10% tip is becoming the norm in restaurants if the usual 10% service charge does not apply. Getting around Bangkok is very cheap if you use the public buses. If you are going out of the city the train is also a good means of travel.
