Visa Information
- WARNING: Passengers arriving without a visa (if required) may
be repatriated to their country of origin or residence at the
transporting carrier's expenses.
Stateless persons and holders of travel documents
need a visa prior to their arrival.
Passengers coming to Mauritius, other than for the purpose of
tourism, visits or business should obtain prior authority from the
Passport and Immigration Office before undertaking any travel to
Mauritius. and apply for a visa prior to entry:
- visitors coming for religious purpose
- persons coming to take up employment
- persons coming for study purpose.
Visa required except for:
- Citizens of Mauritius and their spouses and children,
- Persons who are residents of Mauritius under the Immigration
Act,
- Holders of Diplomatic Passports other than those issued by
the Government of Algeria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Sudan, Democratic
Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Yemen, and Afghanistan,
- Crew of a vessel traveling on duty or in transit to join
another vessel,
- Holders of Laissez-Passez by the United Nations, SADC or
other internationally recognized organizations,
- Persons who intend to remain in Mauritius only during the
stay of a vessel by which they arrive and depart,
Tourist Visa and Business Visa on arrival
A - Holders of Passports issued by the following countries may be
issued a tourist or business visa at the airport, provided that
he/she:
- holds a valid recognized passport (beyond six months at
arrival)
- holds a valid return passage ticket to country of origin or
residence
- has confirmed booking of accommodation (if sponsored by a
Mauritian citizen, applicant should produce supporting letter of
sponsor, stating name, address and relationship)
has adequate funds to meet cost of stay in Mauritius is
eligible to re-enter his/her country of origin or residence
Antigua and Barbuda, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan,
Bahamas, Bahrain, Barbados, Belarus, Belgium, Belize, Botswana,
Brunei, Canada, People's Republic of China, Cyprus, Czech Republic,
Denmark, Dominica, Estonia, Fiji Islands, Finland, France, Gambia,
Georgia, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Grenada, Guyana, Hong Kong SAR,
Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan,
Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Kenya, Kiribati, Kuwait, Latvia,
Lebanon, Lesotho, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malawi,
Malaysia, Maldives, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Mozambique, Namibia,
Nauru, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Papua, New Guinea,
Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Russian Federation, Samoa (Western), San
Marino, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Slovak
Republic, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Spain, St.
Christopher and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & Grenadines,
Swaziland, Sweden, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad
and Tobago, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, Uganda, Ukraine,
United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America,
Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Vatican, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
Application for an extension may be made at the Passport and
Immigration Office, Port Louis, Mauritius.
B - Holders of Passports issued by the following countries may
be issued a tourist visa for a period of 2 (two) weeks on arrival,
provided that he/she:
- holds a valid recognised passport (beyond six months at
arrival)
- holds a valid return passage ticket to country of origin or
residence
- is eligible to re-enter his/her country of origin or
residence
- has adquate funds to meet coust of stay in Mauritius
- has confirmed booking of accommodation (if sponsored by a
Mauritian citizen, applicant should produce supporting letter of
sponsor, stating name, address and relationship)
Republic of Albania, Republic of Bulgaria, Republic of
Madagascar, Republic of Romania, Union of Comoros.
Application for an extension may be made at the Passport and
Immigration Office, Port Louis, Mauritius.
C - Holders of Passports issued by Republic of Korea may be issued a
tourist visa for a period of 16 (sixteen) days on arrival, provided
that he/she:
- holds a valid recognised passport (beyond six months at
arrival)
- holds a valid return passage ticket to country of origin or
residence
- is eligible to re-enter his/her country of origin or
residence
- has adquate funds to meet coust of stay in Mauritius
- has confirmed booking of accommodation (if sponsored by a
Mauritian citizen, applicant should produce supporting letter of
sponsor, stating name, address and relationship)
D - Holders of Passports issued by Argentina, Brazil, Chile or
Paraguay may be issued a tourist visa for a maximum period of 3
(three) months on arrival, provided that he/she:
- holds a valid recognised passport (beyond six months at
arrival)
- holds a valid return passage ticket to country of origin or
residence
- is eligible to re-enter his/her country of origin or
residence
- has adquate funds to meet coust of stay in Mauritius
- has confirmed booking of accommodation (if sponsored by a
Mauritian citizen, applicant should produce supporting letter of
sponsor, stating name, address and relationship)
Nationals of countries NOT listed in any of the categories
above must apply for a Tourist Visa before travelling to Mauritius.
The time for processing of visa application takes 2 weeks following
submission of application and all required documents. The application
is not processed until all required documents and information are
submitted. Application forms duly filled together with all required
documents may be sent to the Embassy of the Republic of Mauritius in
Berlin. Please note that the Embassy of the Republic of Mauritius in
Berlin is accredited to Austria, Germany, Czech Republic and Ukraine
only.
Transit Visa
A transit Visa may be granted to a passenger travelling to a third
country provided he:
- leaves by the first available connecting flight
- has valid onward ticket
- has confirmed departure
- has adequate funds to meet the costs of transit, and
- is eligible to enter onward destination.
If transit exceeds 24 hours, visa should be obtained before
traveling.
Nationals of Afghanistan, Algeria, Democratic Republic of
Congo, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Liberia, Sudan, Nigeria and Yemen should
obtain a visa before travelling to Mauritius even on
transit.
Admission restrictions
The Government of Mauritius does not recognize passports issued by the
following Governments:
- Taiwan
- The homelands of Botsphutatswana, Ciskei, Transkei, Venda or
any other homeland existing in the Republic of South Africa
- Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus
However, holders of such documents may apply for an entry permit
and should not undertake any travel without prior authority.
