Laos is located in south-east Asia between Vietnam and Thailand.

Laos has a tropical monsoon climate. The rainy season is from May to November and the dry season from December to April.

The terrain is mostly rugged mountains with some plains and plateaus.

The best time to visit is between November and February. It rains less during these months and the weather is not too hot.

If you wish to experience heading up into the mountains, May and July can also be pleasant.

Roads can be washed out during rainy season (July to October), but there's plenty of river travel opportunities.

Peak tourist months are December to February and during August, although there are relatively few visitors at any time.
