Laos a country rich in culture, heritage, Buddhism, rivers, mountains and forests. It is located in south-east Asia between Vietnam and Thailand.
Laos has a tropical monsoon climate with the rainy season being from May to November and the dry season from December to April. The terrain is mostly rugged mountains with some plains and plateaus.
Places of interest include the Ho Chi Minh Trail. This is a complicated map of different jungle paths that enabled communist troops to travel from North Vietnam to areas close to Saigon.
Khone Phapheng is considered the largest waterfall in Southeast Asia and is therefore an awesome sight to visit. It's located at the southern end of Si Phan Don, an intricate network of islets where the Mekong fans out. Phan Don is also home to the rare Irrawaddy dolphins, which can be seen at the southern tip of Don Khon.
The Pak Ou Caves are absolutely spectacular. A cave filled with hundreds of statues of the Buddha can be seen through a rugged hole in the cliff face. To see the spectacle up close you will have to climb out onto the dock. Carved stone steps will then escort you to the cave entrance.
Hundreds of huge stone urns cover The Plain Of Jars in communist Laos. They remain the most mysterious of Asia’s ancient sights and are a great tourist attraction. The Plain Of Jars are situated in the remote north east of Laos.
