The New Israeli Shekel / Sheqel
abbreviated as NIS is Israels currency.
Shekels notes consist of 20, 50, 100 &
200. Please bear in mind that the 200 Shekels notes are not easily
traded, so it is advisable to avoid receiving themwhen exchanging
money.
When exchanging money at a bank, you will be
charged a fixed exchange fee. If you try and exchange your money
on a Sunday then the prices are extremely high to do so.
There are many ATMs around Israel that are
all connected to European and American banking systems. You will
be charged by your credit card provider for the service and alsoan
ATM fee.
Travellers cheques are accepted by very few
businesses butthe majority of them do not.
By far exchange places are always cheaper
than the banks and ATMs, if however you do choose to exchange
money this way, be sure to shop around for the best deal.
