Lake Myvatn Conservation Area offers bubbling
mud flats, moolike volcanic craters, newborn lava fields, and
grassy shoals teeming with waterfowl.
The Lake Myvatn region, is arguably one of the
most geologically active and stunningly beautiful areas in
Iceland.
Fortunately, the lake was declared a national
conservation area in 1974, and since then it has become one of the
most popular tourist destinations in the country.
Hordes of gnats breeding in the shallow waters
gave the lake it name which is Midge Lake. |
