The currency is the Dominican Republic Peso (DOP), divided into 100 centavos.

The Peso cannot be exchanged outside of the Dominican Republic.

Major currencies can be converted into pesos at Central Bank approved bureaux.

Major credit cards such as American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard and Visa are all accepted everywhere.

To avoid additional exchange rate charges, travellers are advised to take traveller's cheques in US Dollars as the best exchange rates are paid on US travellers cheques.

All exchanges of currency must be done through official dealers such as banks and hotels approved by the Central Bank.
