The Palacio de la Monedan is inspired by
Neopolitan palaces, and is currently the seat of the Chilean
President.
The building with its imposing neoclassical
facade was originally designed to be a colonial mint. It was
converted into the seat of power in 1845.
Its place in history was assured when Salvador
Allende was killed inside when the palace was bombed in 1973
during Agustin Pinochet's military cout d'etat.
