The Palacio Cousino was built between 1870 and
1878 for Isidora Goyenechea who was a wealthy coal widow.
A fire in 1968 bought the official guest
residence for state visits to an end.
In 1977 the house was opened as a museum and
now serves as a monument to turn-of-the-century European
craftsmanship.
It was declared a National Monument in 1981.
