Arrive -Paro.

This is a most exciting mountain flight and is a befitting introduction to the spectacular beauty of our country.

In clear weather, there are magnificent views of the world's highest peaks.

After lunch, a short excursion to Dzongdrakha monastery, the cluster of cave temples seems like hanging on a cliff.

It was in the 8th century, the great tantric master "Guru Rimpoche" meditated in this cave.

It is a good 1 hour hike through few village houses and apple orchards.

Sightseeing of Thimphu valley

Following breakfast, you'll enjoy a full day of sightseeing that includes:

Hike to Phajoding Monastery

Following breakfast, we'll drive for about 15 minutes and hike up to Phajoding, in Thimphu. From here we will walk to a famous monastery at an altitude of 3,700 meters.

In winter and spring there is a good chance of encountering herds of yaks in the pasture above the monastery.

After a packed lunch, we'll descend back down to the valley and transfer you to the hotel.

Hike to Chari Monastery- Drive to Punakha

Following breakfast, we will drive north of Thimphu valley to Dodina.

We'll cross the cantilever / wooden bridge and hike for about an hour and a half to Chari monastery through the forest of oak, rhododendrons and other species of hardwood trees.

The view from monastery below is quite stunning.

Later we will descend to the valley below and drive back to Thimphu.

After lunch, we drive to Punakha, the winter residence of chief abbot. The road climbs for about an hour till you reach a pass at Dochula at an altitude of 3150M. This pass has some of the most spectacular views over the high peaks of the eastern Himalayas. The road then descends to Punakha & Wangdue through forest of rhododendrons & magnolias which bloom in mid-March & last till May.

Then there is a semi-tropical zone where orange trees, banana palms and cactuses are found

. On arrival we check in to the hotel

Sightseeing & hiking in Punakha

Following breakfast, we visit the Punakha Dzong some 7-8 km away from the hotel.

Punakha Dzong is the most impressive dzong in Bhutan situated in the "confluence" of Phochhu & Mochhu rivers.

Next we drive further north of the valley and hike (for abut 45 minutes) crossing over asuspension bridge to new Khamsum Yuelley Namgyel Chorten (a new temple), the paradise of Guru Rimpoche through the rice field and the village of Niengergang.

After lunch, we visit Chime Lhakhang and walk through the village of Yoakha. The trail leads through rice field and you will see farmers planting / harvesting rice (depending on the time of the year you are there).

The temple is located on a spur with surrounding views of rice field, river gorge and villages.

Drive back to Thimphu.

Following breakfast we drive to Wangdue and then continue to drive to Thimphu via the same road.

Lunch will then be served at a local restaurant.

You will also a second chance to view the Eastern Himalayas.

This evening is yours free at leisure. You can stroll through the town, buy some souvenirs or just say hello to the locals !

Drive to Paro

Following breakfast there is a 2 hour drive to Paro through the valley of the Thimphu river.

You'll see rice fields, houses & orchards on either side.

After lunch there's sightseeing of Paro valley which includes: Ta Dzong: The National Museum.

Excursion to Taktsang Monastery:

Following breakfast we drive about 6km from the resort and hike up to Taktsang Monastery. This is a good length walk but there is a cafe halfway along, so there's a chance for refreshment both coming and going.
