Bhutanese unit of currency is the Ngultrum
which shortens to (Nu.). 100 Chetrum equals 1 Ngultrum and is
fixed to the value of the Indian rupee.
One US dollar is the equivalent of roughly
42 Nu.
The Indian Rupee can be used in Bhutan as it
is the same as the Ngultrum.
Traveller's cheques and US dollars can be
exchanged at banks which are open 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Mon to Fri.
They can also be exchanged in the larger hotels.
There are several banks in Thimphu but there
is only one ATM which is located at the Bhutan National Bank in
Thimphu.
Credit cards are not widely accepted in
Bhutan, with only a few establishments taking Visa and American
Express.
It is advisable to make sure that you have
sufficient quantities of cash and travellers cheques before
travelling to Bhutan. |
